Kelvin C. Lee, MD Memorial Lectureship

Kelvin C. Lee, MD Memorial Lectureship was established in 2005 by the Department of Otolaryngology at New York University Langone Medical Center to honor Dr. Lee.

A graduate of Yale University (BS) and University of California, San Francisco (MD), Dr. Kelvin C. Lee was a colleague and friend to many in the department. Dr. Lee trained in General Surgery at NYU School of Medicine and in Otolaryngology at University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He remained on the faculty at UCSF for many years and was the Chief of Service at San Francisco General Hospital in Otolaryngology and the Program Director for the residency. In 1999, Dr Lee was recruited to NYU School of Medicine as Associate Professor of Otolaryngology, Director of Residency Education and as Associate Chief of Service at Bellevue Hospital. He was internationally renowned for his innovations in rhinology and sleep surgery. Dr. Lee was an avid fly fisherman and an avid boater. A compassionate physician, superb teacher and wonderful colleague, he left a positive impact on all who knew him.

H.K. Chandra Sekhar Lectureship

Dr. Hosakere K. Chandra Sekhar Lectureship has been established by the Department of Otolaryngology at New York University Langone Medical Center to honor and to recognize his many contributions and service since 1971.

Dr. Chandra Sekhar, a fully trained and practicing otolaryngologist when he immigrated to the US in 1969, repeated his residency training in Otolaryngology at NYU. Dr. John F. Daly, Chairman of Otolaryngology at that time, asked him to stay on the full-time clinical faculty while pursuing his clinical practice. In the intervening 30-plus years, Dr. Chandra Sekhar has accomplished what many of us aspire to: taking compassionate care of patients within the breadth of Otolaryngic problems and performing diverse otolaryngologic surgical procedures, while training a succession of medical students and residents. The NYU Temporal Bone Laboratory flourished under his leadership into one of the pre-eminent laboratories in the country and he published the landmark papers on temporal bone findings in rubella and HIV disease.

Besides being an active researcher, physician, surgeon, teacher, and parent, Dr. Chandra Sekhar was an active and effective community leader. He served New York City as Ethnic Advisor for Indian Affairs under Mayor Edward I. Koch. He continued to voice the concerns of Indian-Americans in New York State as appointed by Governor Mario Cuomo. In 1998, Dr. Chandra Sekhar was honored by the Non Resident Indian Association of India with the Hind Rattan Award. The American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation presented him with the Humanitarian Service Award in 2003 and the Honor Award in 2004.

Daly Day Visiting Professorship

The John F. Daly, MD Visiting Professorship was established in 1980 by the alumni and faculty of the Department of Otolaryngology, under the leadership of the then-acting Chair, Dr. Noel Cohen, to recognize the long leadership provided by Dr. Daly.

Dr. Daly was an eminent Otolaryngologist-Head and Neck Surgeon, who served as acting Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology from 1946-47 and as Professor and Chairman from 1947 to 1980. During his leadership, the Department grew both in number of faculty and national prominence. Dr. Daly was a superb surgeon, a leader in the small community of Otolaryngologists performing and teaching modern Head and Neck surgery, and a major figure in the American Academy of Otolaryngology, The Triological Society and the American Otological Society. Since its inception, the Daly Visiting Professor has been a nationally and internationally recognized leader in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Held in June, the Daly Day, is also an occasion to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating residents and fellows.
