Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship

We are pleased to offer a one-year fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This exciting opportunity allows you to explore the many facets of this subspecialty by dividing your time between Bellevue, the Manhattan VA (part of the New York Harbor Healthcare System), Tisch Hospital and Manhattan Eye Ear & Throat Hospital (MEETH). The patient diversity at these locations is amazing and at MEETH you will work alongside Dr. Norman Pastorek, a renowned Manhattan cosmetic facial surgeon. This program does not accept International Medical Graduates for training.

Operative Experience:
The full range of facial plastic surgery is thoroughly covered between the two campuses of the fellowship:

  • At NYU Campus: Open Septorhinoplasty; Full range of facial trauma and Moh’s Reconstruction; Aging face surgery; In-office chemical peels, fillers, Botox
  • At MEETH Campus: Full and extensive experience in all types of cosmetic surgery including composite facelifts, liposuction, forehead lifts; Closed septorhinoplasty

Research:
One major clinical research project suitable for presentation at a national meeting and subsequent publication. In addition numerous opportunities to co-author invited book chapters and journal articles are available. The fellow is expected to significantly contribute to the division’s publication opportunities. The fellow is responsible for coordinating all medical student and resident clinical research in Facial Plastic Surgery.

Teaching Responsibilities:
The fellow will be the teaching staff surgeon, with senior attending supervision when needed, in all resident cases at Bellevue and the Manhattan VA. He/She will help to coordinate the three hours per month of facial plastic surgery resident teaching conferences.

Case Load:
The fellow will have the opportunity to perform as primary surgeon over 200 cases. He will assist on an additional 300 cases, including approximately 100 rhinoplasties, 75 facelifts, 50 blepharoplasties, 20 forehead lifts, and 25 cheek and chin implants.

Call Responsibilities:
The fellow will take first call for Dr. Constantinides’, Dr. Miller’s, and Dr. Pastorek’s private patients. There will be no in-house call. He will be included in the attending call rotation for the Department of Otolaryngology at NYU Langone Medical Center (approximately one week of call every 3 months).

Additional Information:
The fellow’s week is divided between Bellevue and the Manhattan VA Hospitals, NYU Langone Medical Center in the private practices of Drs. Constantinides and Miller, and at MEETH with Dr. Pastorek. The fellow will be the teaching surgeon, commensurate with his knowledge and abilities, at Bellevue and the Manhattan VA. He/She will run the Facial Plastic Surgery clinic at Bellevue Hospital. At NYU, the fellow will attend one day of private office hours with Dr. Constantinides and first assist Drs. Constantinides and Miller in their private cases. He/She will perform Moh’s repairs and other surgery as a clinical instructor, with supervision as needed by Dr. Constantinides. The fellow will also work with Dr. Philip Miller in his private offices on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. With Dr. Pastorek, the fellow will spend one day in the operating room at MEETH.
