At NYU Langone Medical Center we employ the latest diagnostic and therapeutic methods for rhinology, including diagnostic fiber optic nasal endoscopy, high resolution CT and MRI scanning, consultation with allergists, pulmonologists, and other specialists to help treat related problems, intra-operative image guidance (also known as computer assisted surgery), state-of-the-art fiberoptic laser technology and more.
With accurate diagnosis, most sinus and nasal conditions can be treated medically. Appropriate treatment of patients who suffer from repeated episodes of upper respiratory tract illness, including allergic or non-allergic nasal inflammation (rhinitis), and sinus infections can result in relief from symptoms.
If symptoms do not respond to medical treatment, excellent results can be obtained with limited surgical procedures (Sinus Surgery) directed at problem areas identified by nasal endoscopy and CT scanning.
Our diagnosis and treatment procedures may include an endoscopic examination of the nose, under topical anesthesia in the office, to allow for the accurate diagnosis of sinus and nasal conditions, as well as the identification of local anatomic and mucosal lesions, which may predispose the patient to sinusitis. CT scanning of the paranasal sinuses further identifies bony and mucosal abnormalities, which may be the cause of a patient’s symptoms.
Following the development of a treatment plan, recommendations will be detailed in a letter to your referring physician, if appropriate, and on-going contact will be maintained. Patients undergoing surgical procedures receive the necessary post-operative care in the office to ensure the best possible results.
In addition, the Day Surgery Center at NYU Langone Medical Center offers full anesthesia services and recovery room facilities, allowing for same day treatment and discharge of patients.
