When do you begin reviewing applications?
We begin reviewing applications on October 1, 2013.
When does your program start?
The official start date is July 1, 2014.
In addition to the general orientation sessions from NYU and Bellevue for all new house staff, there is also a Department of Otolaryngology orientation. The Department orientation is held during the week prior to the beginning of the academic year, starting approximately on June 25th, 2014. The orientation sessions are designed to introduce the incoming PGY 1’s to workings of the Department of Otolaryngology, to get them better acquainted with the faculty and house staff, as well as help them get prepared for the first days of clinical duties.
How many letters of recommendation are needed?
In addition to the Dean’s letter, 3 letters of recommendation from faculty members must be submitted.
Do you accept foreign medical graduates?
Do FMGs need to have clinical experience in the U.S.?
U.S. Clinical experience is preferred, but not mandatory.
Do you sponsor any visas?
Yes, we sponsor H-1B and J1 visas.
Do I need to be ECFMG certified prior to applying to your program?
You do not need to be ECFMG certified prior to applying to our program; however you do need to be ECFMG certified prior to being offered an interview to our program.
How do I apply for your Residency Program?
All applications are only accepted through ERAS.

Are house staff required to do research?
House staff are required to do research at the PGY 3 level. The Resident Research Committee mentors residents from the first year to help guide and develop their research interests and facilitate both clinical and basic science research opportunities.
Do you offer pre-match?
Our program does not offer a pre-match. All positions are offered through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).
What is the pass rate for the ABOTO?
Greater than 90% for each of the past 10 years.
Do you have a cut off year since graduation from medical school?
Our program does not have a cut off year since graduation from medical school.
What are your minimum scores for USLME, Step 1 & 2?
We do not have a minimum USMLE score requirement. However, our program is highly competitive and the average score of our applicants is usually 235 and greater. The USMLE Step 2 scores are not required at the time of the application process, but they must be submitted once you are selected into the program.
When will I know if I am selected for an interview?
Applicants who are selected for an interview will be notified via the Residency Program Coordinator no later than November 5, 2013. Applicants who are not selected for an interview will be notified via ERAS no later than December 7, 2013.
Is there subsidized housing, and is there any help in finding housing?
A small number of subsidized on campus apartments are made available, with priority given to house staff moving from out of state.
